FAQs

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of talk therapy that helps you change negative thoughts and behaviors to feel better. It’s great for seniors and people with disabilities because it’s practical and works on everyday challenges—like feeling anxious, sad, or stuck. If getting out is hard, I offer CBT through teletherapy, so you can do it from home using a phone, computer, or tablet. Research shows CBT really works—it’s been studied a lot and proven to help with things like depression, anxiety, and even chronic pain.

Each CBT session is about 50 minutes and happens over a secure video or phone call. We start by talking about what’s bothering you—like worries or habits you want to change. I’ll help you spot negative thoughts (like “I can’t do anything right”) and show you how to switch them to something more positive (like “I’m doing my best”). We’ll practice simple skills, like breathing to calm down or making small goals, and you can try them between sessions. It’s step-by-step, and we go at your pace!

Yes! CBT is one of the most studied therapies out there. Scientists have done tons of research showing it helps people feel less stressed, happier, and more in control. Studies from places like the National Institute of Mental Health say it’s super effective for anxiety, depression, and even coping with health problems—perfect for seniors or anyone facing tough stuff.

Teletherapy, including CBT, is approved by Medicare and Medi-Cal, making it affordable. If you have Medicare, you’ll just pay a small co-pay per session. Starting in July 2025, I’ll also accept Central Coast Alliance for Health (CCAH). For these people therapy is completely free.

CBT moves at your own speed. Sessions are 50 minutes, and we can meet weekly, every other week, or whatever works for you. Some people see changes in 6-12 sessions, while others keep going longer for bigger goals. It depends on what you want to work on—there’s no rush, and we’ll adjust as we go.

If you don’t have insurance or want to pay yourself, my rate is $180 per session. I’ll give you a superbill—a receipt you can send to your insurance to check if they’ll pay you back through out-of-network benefits.

Therapy follows the insurance info above, but I also offer care management services if you need help organizing care. Those fees aren’t covered by insurance, so just ask me for details!

Reach out to me! We’ll set up a time, and I’ll help you get ready for teletherapy. It’s private, easy, and here to help you feel better with CBT.
